The main objective of this international congress is to explore the actual knowledge and know-how about color practices (from dye to design), its theories and its models identified in France and in Japan in several fields of research.

 

In this objective, four axes will be presented by some researchers, craftmen and designers:
- Archeology of colors: traceability and ways of memorization of the animal and vegetable dyes,
- To think and to classify the color: cultures, uses and naming the colors,
- To innovate from the colors: chemistry, dyeing techniques and dyestuff development,
- To create from and with the color: color design, colorist works and some way of thinking the color ranges.
As well, the JSPS Forum 2016 will propose some specific exchanges about the color in Arts and Design:
- as a dyestuff and a material for creation,
- regarding to some experiences,
- linked to some practices,
- considering the tint,
- regarding to the poetics of the shade.

Our reflections will include some archaeological and linguistics points of view, craftsmen and researchers subjects in Arts as well. By the exchanges, this congress will also permit to actualize the researches on the domain in France and in Japan.

For this purpose of trying to define a Japanese aesthetics and way of thinking colors, an exhibition on “Kasane iro” and a design creation are proposed during the forum. The first one includes some ancient books and an original creation made by natural dyed samples from the Yoshioka Studio collection. Near this traditional way of making, one actual design takes place: the “Color Hunting”, color ranges conceptualized by Dai Fujiwara (Associate designer of Issey Miyake since the 90’s).

Moreover, two workshops of dyeing will give the opportunity to better understand some specific colors making, by oxidation, in two different ways: one with some Japanese shellfish purple (kai murasaki) by Professor Takako Terada (design & sciences), and one with all natural vat of Pastel (isatis tinctoria), by David Santandreu (Château des Plantes).

Colloque international en langue anglaise, intitulé "Ethno-poïetics of colors, From the experience of the tint to the poetics of the shade", (litt. « Ethnopoïétique de la couleur. De l’expérience de la teinte à la poétique du coloris ») organisé en collaboration avec le Professeur Jun Kataoka (Université des Ryukyus, Japon), 13-14 Octobre 2016, Musée Labit, Toulouse.

Le principal objectif de ce congrès est d’explorer les savoirs et savoir-faire actuels à propos de la couleur : ses pratiques (de la teinture/coloration au design/conception), ses théories et ses modèles, identifiés en France et au Japon dans différents champs de la recherche. Quatre axes sont abordés par des chercheurs, des artisans et des designers :
   ⁃    l’archéologie des couleurs : traçabilité et processus de mémorisation des teintures animales et végétales ;
   ⁃    penser-classer la couleur : cultures, usages et nomination des coloris ;
   ⁃    innover à partir des couleurs : chimie, techniques tinctoriales et développement de colorants pour l’industrie ;
   ⁃    créer depuis et avec la couleur : design couleur, travaux du coloriste et modes de pensée la couleur (design de gammes)
